The Diocesan Winter Retreat for Children, organized by the Department of Religious Education of the Serbian Orthodox New Gracanica–Midwestern Diocese, was a truly blessed and successful event. Held at the Wonderland Camp and Retreat Center, the retreat gathered children from across our Diocese for a weekend of faith, learning, fellowship, and joy.
Throughout the retreat, children participated in engaging educational sessions, prayer, group discussions, and meaningful Orthodox Christian activities to deepen their understanding of the faith and promote personal growth. Alongside the spiritual program, campers enjoyed a variety of winter games and team-building activities that fostered an atmosphere of excitement, laughter, and shared experiences.
One of the most beautiful parts of the retreat was the strong sense of fellowship that grew among the children. Many reconnected with friends from past camps, while others made new bonds that will last beyond the retreat. This feeling of unity and belonging—so core to Orthodox Christian life—was clearly visible throughout the weekend.
We sincerely thank our retreat leaders, Stefan Dmitrovic and Milana Bjelobaba, along with our dedicated counselors: Suzana Tesla, Dusan Matic, Aleksandar Suvajlo, Mia Damjanovic, and Kristina Dodig. We also appreciate the many volunteers and parents who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the program ran smoothly and successfully. Their commitment to serving our youth created a safe, enriching, and spiritually uplifting experience for every child.
Additionally, special thanks to the members of the Circle of Serbian Sisters of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana, who generously supported the retreat by covering the cost of all snacks.
Programs like this Winter Retreat play a crucial role in our children’s spiritual growth and in strengthening Orthodox Christian families. They provide young people with a supportive environment where faith is practiced, friendships are built, and lifelong memories are made—laying a solid foundation for their future in the Church.
We thank all parents for their trust and support, and we look forward to continuing these valuable programs that nurture our children’s faith and hearts. With God’s help, we eagerly anticipate upcoming retreats and gatherings that will keep our Diocese united in love and faith.
